This bright and colorful image was used to promote the “Route des Pyrenees” for coastline travel using a car tour service. In the image we see the beautiful view from the roadway that winds its way around the side of the mountain with the Ocean on the other side . It invites the viewer to use this service to enjoy the sights. The Côte Vermeille is a region in the French department of Pyrenees-Orientales, near the border of Spain. The Côte Vermeille stretches from Argeles-sur-Mer to the border of the village of Cerbere.. The poster was printed C1930 by the print house Lucien Serre. The artist, Pierre Commarmond (1897-1983), specialized in landscape painting and enjoyed depicting mountain and ocean scenes in his work. He was affiliated with various artists’ associations in France. His career as a designer of posters was focused on landscape scenes and he was always recognized as depicting the various destinations with crisp colors and accurate artwork.
